TIME FOR MY RETROSPECTIVE DEEP DIVE through S1-12

S01 - Murder House

The Murder Home

Where the true nightmare begins... A masterpiece in itself, that set a blistering standard for tv show horror, in my opinon. When I first layed eyes upon Violet and Tate, I was entering my teenage years. Loving horror and ghost I thought, hey what is this show where they tell horror stories. Little to my knowledge, I entered a realm of endless waves of terror. Murder house will forever set the stage for AHS. As I've grown up, I have since appreciated the elements the wrtiers chose to take in the age of tradegy. While keeping things all shows alike need. Murder house was the first season of the rest of a terrificly terrifyingly tragic series of stories. A true murder home.

S02 - Asylum

INSANE Asylum

Oh Asylum... This season had brilliant psychological characters and themes. To the point that my underdeveloped mind did not understand the first time watching. Along with not knowing what a show that changes themes every season was... I was distraught not seeing our beloved murder house families. New characters new themes, new evils. I could not keep up, the aliens the asylum the creature studies. But do not worry... after a few more rewatches I've learned to love this season just as much.

S03 - Coven

The Seven Wonders

Witch brings us to the fan favorited Coven.(see what i did there) The beggining of the true magic of AHS. I think we all love coven and hold parts of it dear. The girlhood, the music, the feeling of family and loss and the historical tropes they teach us throughout. Coven introduced such a great feeling from the first two seasons with just as much depth. Although it was truly as devestating as Murder House was... But Tate and Violet reprised as Zoe and Kyle. We asked, they delivered. Coven was so dear to my heart, I rewatch it almsot every year, and Stevie Nicks as the white witch. This season was everything and more.

S04 - Freak Show

Freaked Show

With the countless tragic backstories and, grotesque visual compositions... My first watch of this was not as enjoyable as the others. Knowing the amount of non fiction within the fiction was slightly disturbing. Growing up I fell to empathize with the characters. I fell in love with the jump in color grading and themes they explored this season. Alike with Asylum, this is a season not for the faint hearted and for the ones who enjoy the real stories and history shared within the horror.

S05 - Hotel

Hotel Infinitum

Oh Hotel... You beautiful, blood-soaked, soul sucking overload of season that you HAD to pay attention to every detail to understand the ending. Giving us cunty fashion, the one and only Lady Gaga. The vampires, ghost, plotlines of addiction. But not just that... the twist and the way this season didn't explicitly tell us which seasons were intertwined, but the veteran watchers could point out each character and connection anyways.

S06 - Roanoke

Found Footage.. Lost Colony

Such and innovative idea from the former sesaons we got. When I first watched Roanoke... I hated it... I hated the jump in themes, I hated the style of show, I hated the story.... I hated the lack of former cast... However... okay listen, it has become one of my fav seasons. After a few rewacthes I loved how they dipped their toes into lost footage horror mockumenatary style directing. The cast playing two different characters was SO good, and another iconic role from kathy bates and Lady Gaga. Straying further from the orignal cast, they brought on great people to play the new characters.

S07 - Cult

Cult.

Okay... this season HIT, especially if you watched it during the peak of the maga cult. It ditched the supernatural elements for sort of a real-world political paranoia and psychological manipulation tactics the other seasons didn't gave us...although it sure did feel supernatural. This season somehow gave us and even more different feel from the former ones while hitting the same insane themes. Cult is not a rewatchable season for me.. only because it is so real. I think human made horror is far scarier than anything supernatural.

S08 - Apocalypse

Apocalypse Retcon

How ambitious of them to give us another main season corssover, bringing Coven and Murder House back together. Oh Micheal Langdon... must I say more. LOL girls calm down... he was the villian. Or made villian. Do we blame him for a life he was born into? Okay, this season was so beautifully good. Thank you Ryan for listening! We finally got the crossover of the decade!! How could it get better than this?! Oh... it doesn't, well at least in my opinion. Apocalypse was the last greatest AHS season. In terms of originality, and cast choice, and story line. It wrapped up loose endings and gave us more to ponder over. But there's always a downfall and like the seasons ending, the show itself could not compete anymore.

S09 - 1984

Camp Slasher

Now... I LOVE a good slasher camp horror film...but this was not as intrguing as anything I've seen in AHS. By this time in life I was older, understanding more, yet the show became less nuanced. Divas.. this was the start of my perosonal end to watching AHS. I tried so hard to watch and restart this season and can not seem to finish. But by all means. if it is your fav, tell me why, I need to know how good it ends up being... if it does.

S10 - Double Feature

Spliced

Okay new concept... two distinct, experimental shorter horror stories spliced between one season hmm... I was partially fond of this concept and stories. The first part was golden. I loved the cast the story and I wish it was a full season... and then the second part, back to aliens! Which I hated and it was boring. Sorry to say the aliens only kind of made sense in the second season. It didnt feel original and didnt give me the scare I desired from AHS. This concept was cool, if done with the right stories. I would have like to watched a double feature of the same story but across multiple perspectives like a pulp ficiton sort of deal.

S11 - NYC

Metropolitan Plague

Such a somber look at real-world historical horrors about underground subcultures in the heart of NYC...but again another season I failed to finish. Not becuase of the story this time, I actually loved the themes they hit on. However, as I grew up less things became as scary as they were before. This season in particular was not hitting the horror story bar I had set for the shows standard years ago. Not a bad watch, I see the concepts they wanted to go for within the last few seasons. Just didn't feel like American Horror Story at this point.

S12 - Delicate

Cuntception

Ah, finally a modern, slow-burn psychological horror thriller that follows maternal paranoia through a sterile cinematic lens.... how clever. NOT. By the time I watched this, I had seen this concept many times before. Althought I loved the cast choice and even loved Kim K's "performance", this season fell just as short if not more than the other seasons. I watched, I felt, I pondered, and it still didn't feel like American Horror Story. I did enjoy it feeling more scary but only at the hands of a womans pain and suffering? Maybe I'm growing up and certain themes don't resonate with me as much as they did before. Which is why I rewatch older seasons over and over!

Ayla's Final Thoughts

As I now look back from Murder House all the way to Delicate, it's honeslty crazy to see how much this anthology has transformed along with myself. Every season brought its own flavor of chaos and horror, and while some experiments hit better than others, the campy, cunty, haunting style and performance depth are unmatched!
